At present BFL offers its services, mostly through Self Help Groups (SHG) / Joint Liability Groups (JLG) and to individuals.
Self Help Groups (SHG) – A small, economically homogeneous and affinity group of rural/urban poor, voluntarily formed to save and contribute to a common fund to be lent to its members as per the groups’ decision and for working together for social and economic uplift of their families and community.
Self Help Groups serve as a non-formal agency for credit supply to the poor. The objectives of the SHG are to:
- Inculcate savings and banking habits among the poor and rotate the savings among themselves;
- Enable availing of loan for productive purposes and repaying the same over a period of time, and in the process;
- Gain economic prosperity;
- Gain from collective wisdom in financial matters in organizing and managing their own finance and distributing the benefits among themselves.
Joint Liability Groups (JLG) – A small (5-10 members) homogeneous and affinity group of rural and urban poor, voluntarily formed to start new income generation activities / expand their existing activity for social and economic uplift of their families and community.
